Why What We Do Matters

• Under-resourced young adults often suffer from low self esteem. People with higher self-confidence earn an average of $7000 more per year. (SSRN)
• Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for children and young adults ages 10-24. Helping them find and pursue their passion, making them feel a part of something bigger than themselves, and giving them a sense of purpose can all go a long way to drastically reducing those suicide numbers. • Higher unemployment leads to more depression, lower self-esteem, greater opportunities to engage in less productive activities and blocked perceptions to routes for building thriving families, communities and productive working careers. (American Psychological Association)
• Children from low-income families are more likely to become a gang member, run away, have sex before 16. (World Youth Report)

Through the programs here at YourPassion1st, children and young adults are getting involved with projects that will grow their confidence, fill their free time with productive activities, help them avoid lives of crime, drug use, or early sexual activity, and give them skills they can use to build a future.

How We Do It

• Mental health and skill-based workshops
• Volunteer and workforce opportunities through our community events
• Mentorship programs
• Collaborative work experiences (community beautification projects, city mural painting, etc.)
